touring the historic ha‘iku mill, where old world europe meets natural hawaiian splendor

haikumill_cjevans_nWith its crumbling vine-covered walls, lush tropical flora, and elegant French-inspired décor, it’s easy to see why the historic Ha‘iku Mill is renowned for being one of the most romantic wedding venues in the world. Now owner Sylvia Hamilton Kerr has opened up her extraordinary property for tours, which means you no longer have to be attending a wedding to experience the magic of Ha‘iku Mill.

The Ha‘iku Sugar Company was chartered on November 20, 1858, by the Kingdom of Hawai‘i, and began production in 1861. It was one of the first 10 companies to go into the sugar business in the Hawaiian Islands, and the first to be powered by steam. In 1871, Samuel T. Alexander became manager of the Ha‘iku Mill. He formed Alexander & Baldwin with his partner Henry Perrine Baldwin, and organized an irrigation system, which was completed in 1878, that allowed crops such as sugar to be grown in more leeward areas of Maui. the mill house at maui tropical plantation’s first annual maui chefs invitational

mill-house-ct_chefs_gridThe Mill House presents the first annual Maui Chefs Invitational, a week long, multi-part culinary event. The Mill House and Executive Chef Jeff Scheer will be hosting seven highly-acclaimed chefs from culinary capitols around the U.S. The chefs will arrive on November 7 and spend several days of private time exploring Maui’s farmland and collaborating in the kitchen. The week will culminate in a series of three events on November 11-13.

Seven Chefs have been nominated and invited to showcase their artistry and point-of-view. This is a collaboration in the spirit of creativity and camaraderie. These chefs are involved in some of the most successful and cutting edge restaurants, which aim to provide a purposeful, all encompassing dining experience. a perfect spot for thanksgiving—ka‘anapali beach hotel thanksgiving buffet: thursday, november 24

kbh_sundaybrunch_022There are two delectable options to celebrate with family and friends this Thanksgiving at KBH. Brunch is available from 11am to 1pm and the Thanksgiving Dinner Buffet will be offered in  the Tiki Terrace from 3 to 7pm that evening.

Brunch is offered at $46.95 for adults and $24 for children ages 6 to 12 years. Children 5 and under are free with a paying adult.

Thanksgiving dinner is $52.95 for adults and $24 for children ages 6 to 12 years. Children 5 and under are free with a paying adult.

mc-cover_11-2016_img_4361Aloha and Mahalo to Cameron “Cami Bear” Wailani Sylvia Delatori Brown and her family for sharing her smile with us this month!

Mom is Aulani-Kuulei Delatori, who works at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, as banquet coordinator, and dad is Dustin Brown, who works at Alaloa Lounge at The Ritz-Carlton.

The family is originally from Lahaina, but currently resides in Kahului.

Cameron’s favorite activity is dancing hula for Halau Ke‘ala Kahinano O Puna. She also loves to sing and dance. She was named 2015 Keiki of the Year at the Maui County Fair.

Mom shares, “Cami inspires us to have fun and love with everything that we do. To laugh more and appreciate all that this life has to offer!”
