Aloha and mahalo to Drestyn Koloa Tauto‘a Sims and his family for sharing his sweet smile with us for our cover this month!

Drestyn’s mom is Tiara Hasegawa, who works at Andaz Maui as a resort host, and dad is Jimmie Sims, Jr.

Drestyn attends preschool, and his favorite things to do are playing soccer, wrestling, football, and riding his dirt bike.

Mom shared, “Every day is a highlight with my son. He loves being silly and making people laugh. He always reminds me how much he loves me with lots of kisses, hugs, and ‘I love yous.’ He is definitely my ‘opihi boy.’ Dre inspires me to be a better person and to live life with no regrets and to always have fun!”

We want to send a big aloha to Jordan and Kayla Newsome, and their family, for sharing their smiles with us this month.

Grandmother is Karen Happy Wood, a longtime reader of The Maui Concierge magazine and concierge at Wailea Beach Villas.

Mom is Holland Venema, and dad is Matthew Newsome.

Jordan is ten years old and attends Kam III elementary school in Lahaina, where he just started fifth grade; math is his favorite subject.

Three-year-old Kayla has not started school yet, but she loves dancing and singing to her favorite songs from “Moana.”

We want to say thank you to five-year-old Jessica Kamalulaikeha Kamaka and her family for sharing her smile with us this month for our cover.

Mom is Sandi Kamaka of Fairmont Kea Lani Maui, and dad is Travis Kamaka a Department of Public Safety officer.

The family lives in Wailuku, and Jessica dances hula for Halau Kauluokala with Kumu Uluwehi Guerrero. She also enjoys swimming with Maui Swim Club.

Mom shares, “a favorite memory of ours is when Jessica saw her sisters dancing hula at a wedding she went on stage and joined in with a big confident smile even though she didn’t know how to dance, she was about three-years-old at the time! We have enjoyed watching her grow into an independent and confident person.”

We want to send a big Mahalo to our keiki cover boy ‘Oli Tysei Barroll Mitchell and his family this month.

‘Oli’s dad is Ryan Mitchell, server at Mama’s Fish House, and mom is Eri Mitchell of Maui Seaside Hotel.

The family lives in Kahului, and ‘Oli is starting first grade at Lihikai School.

He loves to dance Tahitian, and in his first solo competition in Kaua’i at Heiva I Kaua‘i 2016 he took first place in the four-year-old and six-year-old categories! ‘Oli  also enjoys going to the beach with his family and body boarding.

Dad shares, “my son inspires me to share the aloha spirit every day.”

We want to say Mahalo to our keiki cover model this month, Kailea Larsen.

Kailea’s mom is Povi Larsen, concierge at Sheraton Maui Resort, and dad is David Larsen. The family lives in Napili. Kailea is seven years old, and is in first grade at Maui Prep. Her favorite subject at school is science.

Kailea also enjoys gymnastics, karate, playing basketball, and swimming.

Mom shares, “I love my daughter for her kind heart and beautiful smile. She loves animals, and wants to learn how to make the earth a better place. She inspires me to bring love, joy, and appreciation to the world around us.”

Our keiki model for this month’s cover is seven-year-old Katelyn Hailey Galo Pagdilao. Her Auntie Jocelyn Pagdilao has worked at Ka‘anapali Beach Club as a tour coordinator for the past ten years; Katelyn’s mom and dad are Janet and Eric Pagdilao. The family lives in Kahului, and Katelyn attends Lihikai School where she loves writing and drawing.

Auntie Jocelyn shared, “Katelynn is just like her favorite Uncle Ronald. She knows how to turn your bad days into good ones with a smile.”

Katelyn’s family would like to dedicate this photo of their sweet girl to her Uncle Ronald who recently passed away.

Our keiki cover model this month is Jadelyn Taylor Leano Dagupion.

Jade’s mom is Lisa Leano, front desk agent at Ka‘anapali Beach Hotel, and dad is Patrick Dagupion, server at Japengo at Hyatt Regency Maui Resort.

The family lives in Napili, and Jade will be entering kindergarten next year. She loves dancing hula and Tahitian, and has been dancing with Kumu Keoni with Halau ‘Aumakua productions. Jadelyn was voted Miss Keiki Aloha in 2013 when she was just one!

Jade’s dad shared, “Jade is our little firecracker and knows just what she wants!”

Mom said, “Jade loves to play with makeup and loves to shop with me at Sephora and Target. In her downtime you will find her playing on the ipad.”
