At Olavine Spa & Salon in the Wailea Gateway Center, guests of all ages can enjoy a “Maui Mud Party”—a signature treatment that combines the therapeutic benefits of organic Maui red clay with a whole lot of fun. “It’s perfect for couples, or a parent and child,” says spa owner Cecilia Hercik. “We can also incorporate the mud treatment into a private spa party for up to ten guests.”

Swimsuit-clad guests are first treated to aromatherapy, followed by exfoliation. After rinsing off, organic clay is applied to the entire body. “All we can see is their eyeballs!” laughs Cecilia. Guests then sit down in the “wet room” and sip tea, while the clay cools and relaxes their bodies. One more rinse off, then it’s time for moisturizer. The Wailele (Waterfall) Suite offers a multiple-nozzle Vichy Shower for signature body services and scrubs. Additional features include multiple sensory experience showers inspired by varieties of Maui rain, steam and sauna, a soothing pālolo (mud) bar and an invigorating hot stone foot bed. kapalua spa: did someone say ahhhhhhh?

“Poor you.” That’s the response I received from most of my friends and co-workers when I announced I’d drawn an assignment to experience Kapalua Spa. But what they didn’t know is that I was a total spa novice.

Sure, I’ve had plenty of massages, manicures, and pedicures in my lifetime, but never had I experienced the ultimate luxury indulgence of spending an afternoon at a spa.
