Blow Your Own Maui Glass Ornament

Available on Wednesdays from 10am – 1pm by reservation. Experience some holiday magic and create a beautiful glass ball ornament! Each participant will walk away with an incredible personalized glass ornament—ready to give as a gift or to display in your home. Over approximately 30 minutes, you will choose the colors for your unique glass ball, learn about basic tools and techniques, and even try your hand at some of the process! No experience is required and you’ll have lots of help and guidance from Teaching Artist Stephen Fellerman. Note: Pieces will be available for pick up 24-48 hours after class; flat rate shipping is also available on request at an additional charge.

Print Your Own Wrapping Paper

After this workshop, your holiday gifts will stand out from the crowd! You’ll be provided with all the tools, ink, paper, studio space, and instruction needed to create your very own personalized wrapping paper. In the process, you’ll enjoy learning the basics of relief printing!

Joyful Jewelry: Maui-made Bangles
Tuesday, December 12 / 5 – 9pm

Create a personalized gift from the heart. Students will learn to solder with sterling silver, shape the bangle, and polish and finish the final pieces. Great to give or keep, bangles are a wonderful way to learn jewelry basics and have fun.

Enameled Holiday Ornaments-Made on Maui!

Learn to make a handmade ornament that will become a special holiday keepsake. Learn the art of enameling as you add color to your metal design.

Talk Story & Demonstration with Lufi Luteru — FREE!
Friday, December 15 / 10am – 12pm

Join Lufi Luteru and learn about her various creative endeavors as a native Hawaiian artist. Through this casual and conversational format, Lufi will share examples and images of her wearable works of art and also demonstrate lauhala weaving. Her work has been exhibited in many galleries and exhibitions and her poetry has been featured in books of Native Hawaiian writing.

Wednesday, December 20 / 5 – 6pm

Kumula‘au & Haunani will demonstrate how to weave some examples of ‘ie basketry and will display various representations of the art form.

Ulana ‘Ie: Beginning Hawaiian Basketry with Kumula‘au & Haunani Sing
Thursday & Friday, December 21 & 22
9am – 4pm

This workshop will teach participants the fundamentals of starting and finishing a basket with a cover. Using brightly colored dyed rattan wicker, students will learn how baskets were traditionally made using the aerial rootlets of the ‘ie‘ie (Freycinetia arborea) plant. Teach the Teachers: Professional Development — E Kapala Ki‘i: Printing For Indigenous Consciousness with Kumula‘au & Haunani Sing
Wednesday, December 27 / 10am – 12pm

This short workshop will provide classroom teachers with cultural and historical insights on traditional Hawaiian printing. Teachers will create neo-traditional stamps that reflect the lifestyle and local culture of Hawai‘i today. Teachers will make their own personalized block stamps and print their designs and will leave with a lesson idea adaptable to classrooms. Tuition: FREE – Preregistration is required! Ulana ‘Ie: Hinalea Fish Trap with Kumula‘au & Haunani Sing
Thursday & Friday, December 28 & 29
9am – 4pm

Workshop will teach participants advanced weaving techniques to create the hina‘i hinalea (Wrasse funnel trap) complete with crosspieces lashed to an anchor stone using hau cordage. Prerequisite: Beginning Hawaiian Basketry or experience. Visit huinoeau.com to register.

Drop off the kids for a workshop and do some holiday shopping! The Hui’s gallery is filled with wonderful gift items—and on these special Wednesdays, you’ll get an early look at the Hui’s new “Art Market” while your child has fun, too!

Snowflake Ornaments
Wednesday, December 6 / 4 – 5pm

Keiki will create snowflake ornaments in a variety of patterns using pipe cleaners and beautiful beads. These ornaments will make fun additions to your holiday décor!

Make Your Own Snowpeople
Wednesday, December 13 / 4 – 5pm

Create whimsical snowpeople that won’t melt away at the end of the season! Keiki will use a sock, pom poms, cotton stuffing, popcorn kernels, and toothpicks to make their own unique version of “Frosty” the snowman.

Floral Wreaths
Wednesday, December 20 / 4 – 5pm

Children will make their very own colorful wreaths using tissue paper, pom poms, and paper plates! Keiki may choose from traditional holiday colors or create their own tropical color scheme for a fun, multimedia floral wreath.
