american cancer society west maui relay for life 2017 saturday, august 19, 2017

This month will feature the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life for West Maui located at the park behind the Lahaina Aquatic Center on Saturday, August 19 from 3pm-midnight volunteers will walk all night to honor loved ones lost to cancer and honor our friends and family who are cancer survivors.

Relay for Life is a team fundraising event where team members take turns walking around a track or designated path. Each event is 6-24 hours in length and each team is asked to have a member on the track at all times to signify that cancer never sleeps. Cancer patients don’t stop because they’re tired, and for one night, neither do we. Each team sets up a themed campsite at the event and continues their fundraising efforts by collecting donations for food, goods, games, and activities. This money will count towards their overall team fundraising goal.

Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 27 countries. Volunteers give of their time and effort because they believe it’s time to take action against cancer.

Join us at these events to bring communities together to remember loved ones lost, honor survivors of all cancers, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society make a global impact on cancer.

One in three women and one in two men in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. One of those people could be you or someone you love. That’s why we Relay. When you join a Relay For Life event, you’re helping the American Cancer Society fund groundbreaking research, crucial patient care programs, and education and prevention information. When you Relay, you help save lives.

Join this year’s Carnival Theme with entertainment, games, prizes, food trucks, silent auction and the very touching Luminaria Ceremony hosted by Senator Roz Baker (who is a Cancer Survivor).

We remember loved ones lost to cancer and honor those in treatment by dedicating Luminaria bags. Each bag is personalized with a name and message and illuminated after dark at every Relay for Life event. Free Dinner offered to any Cancer Survivors that want to participate (no walking required). Come and talk story and be celebrated for their journey and provide hope and inspiration for so many others touched by Cancer.

All funds raised are kept in Hawai‘i to help cancer research and cancer survivors. Put a team together this year! For more information please call Jackie 669-6595.
