The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua is proud to host the 25th Annual Celebration of the Arts Festival, April 14 – 15, 2017, where Hawaii’s most reputable artisans, educators, cultural practitioners, speakers and entertainers will convene to celebrate the islands’ cultural cornerstones.

Celebrating its Silver anniversary this year, the highly anticipated festival allows visitors and locals the opportunity to experience authentic Hawaiian culture through various activities such as hands-on art demonstrations, informative speaker panels, historic films, cultural panels, and traditional food, music and dance. This year’s theme, “Wahi Mahalo…a universal thank you,” is centered around giving honor, thanks and appreciation to all things Hawaiian.

Event highlights include:

Hiuwai & E Ala E •

No better way to start the event. Please join us as we cleanse the heart, mind and body while raising the sun with chants to begin life anew.

Wehe Ka I Puka (Opening Protocol) •

Traditional chants and protocol officially open the 25th Annual Celebration of the Arts.

E Ala E •

A documentary film about Iao Stream and how its path was carved by nature…but redesigned by humans in a very controversial way. Question and answer period to follow.

Got Strategy? •

Round one of the first ever Hawaiian Konane Tournament. Similar to Chinese Checkers, but with the strategies of a chess master. This was a game to teach chiefs the art of battle strategy.

The Art of the ‘Aina •

Local families and farmers share the harvest of their gardens with a Hawaiian style co-op featuring fruits, veggies and medicinal potions.

Hulu Lehua •

Documentary film about the return of the treasured feathered cape and helmet given to Captain Cooke by the high chief Kalaniopu‘u. Film presented by The Office of Hawaiian Affairs and The Bishop Museum.

The Celebration of Island Tastes •

Local families prepare their specialties and make it available for you to enjoy. Eat as much…or as little as you like! Entertainment by the beautiful voices of “Ahumanu” along with Halau Hula Malani O Papeke.

The Celebration After-Hours •

Music, merriment and a whole lot of fun. Live entertainment includes Kamakakehau Fernandez, Na Wai ‘Eha, Kamaka Kukona and Leo Hone, releasing his brand new CD at The Celebration After Hours, John Cruz, Josh Tatofi, Josh Kahula and his band ‘Nuff Sedd.
To complement the guests’ experiences, the resort will be offering an exclusive Celebration of the Arts Room Package in tandem with the weekend celebration.
