20TH ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS

The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua will once again convene Hawai‘i’s most reputable artisans, educators, cultural practitioners, speakers and entertainers, April 6 and 7 during the 20th Annual Celebration of the Arts.

This year’s theme, ‘Me Ke Aloha…With Aloha To All,’ promises a nod to the education and preservation of Hawai‘i’s past, present and future. Opening ceremonies include traditional oli (chants) from Hawaiian practitioners while music and hula will be continuous throughout the weekend. Hands-on art, demonstrations, films, cultural panels, music and dance will serve as the common thread to allow visitors and residents the opportunity to interact and enjoy the “#1 Rated Annual Festival” according to Modern Luxury Hawai‘i magazine. The event has also been the recipient of the coveted “Keep it Hawai‘i Kahili Award” presented by the Hawaii Tourism Association.

Exciting panels sure to enhance the 2012 event include: “The Evolution of the Canoe” with watermen Iokepa Nae‘ole and Kimo Kapahulehua; “What Kind of Ancestor Will You Be?” by Brook Kapukuniahi Parker; and “Aloha Exists On Distant Lands” hosted by a gathering of individuals from Tibet, Africa, Samoa, Hawai‘i and North America.  Environmental concerns will also be addressed during a think-tank entitled “Moving With The Speed Of Nature” hosted by Trisha Kehaulani Watson of NOAA (The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration).

The Celebration Luau and Show will culminate the weekend festivities by bringing together the foods of traditional Hawai‘i and the award-winning contemporary cuisine of The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua chefs. The Celebration After-Hours Party is the finale and is held in the Lobby Alaloa Lounge complimentary for adults to enjoy, from 9 p.m. to Midnight, on both nights. The finest talent in Hawai‘i will take the stage with impromptu performances in a fun-filled jam session that reflects upon the spirit of aloha for which the islands are renowned.  Star Noodle & MOCA Presents 1st Annual Empty Bowl Project
Benefit for Maui Food Bank 

The 1st Annual Empty Bowl Project will be held on April 14 from 5-8pm at Star Noodle (286 Kupuohi Street in the Lahaina Business Park). Star Noodle and the Maui Organization for the Ceramic Arts (MOCA) have come together to bring you inspired cuisine, outstanding art and great entertainment for a very worthy cause, the Maui Food Bank. Empty Bowl Project is an international grassroots project to help fight hunger. Events have taken place across the United States and in at least a dozen other countries. Millions of dollars have been raised and donated to hunger-fighting organizations.

Ceramic artists from around Maui who make up MOCA will create 200 hand crafted ceramic bowls to be sold for a $25 donation at the event. The bowl you purchase is a keepsake to remind you of all the “empty bowls” in the world, proceeds collected from your purchase will be donated to the Maui Food Bank. The donation will also include a visit to the special Empty Bowl Project “Noodle Bar” created by Award Winning Chef, Sheldon Simeon, of Star Noodle. At the “Noodle Bar” tent you will be able to create your own Ramen or Organic Soba with a variety of garnishing’s. Only those who purchase a bowl at the event will be able to enjoy the “Noodle Bar”.

The street fair setting will take place under the stars at Star Noodle with live entertainment along with the Maui Taiko Drummers, throughout the evening. In addition to the special Empty Bowl “Noodle Bar” station, SCRIPS will be available for food tents featuring Star Noodle favorites like Garlic Noodles and Lahaina Fried Soup, as well as special dishes created by Chef Sheldon for the event: Asian Tacos(Kalbi Shortrib & Adobo Grilled Pork), Scallop Shots, Twice Cooked Tiger Prawns, Star Chop Steak and Miso Chicken. Desserts to include Peanut butter Mousse, Star Sherbet and Ice Cakes along with refreshing signature Star cocktails, wines, beers and sakes.

A very special silent auction will feature additional one of a kind works of art by MOCA artists, Star Noodle staff as well as non-ceramic art pieces by noted local Maui artists. After watching the beautiful Lahaina sunset, join us for the “after party” to celebrate our 2nd Anniversary at Star Noodle and introduce “Star Lounge” from 8-10pm. “Feng Shui Color Party” to Raise Funds for Cancer Patients

Kapalua Spa announces the return of famed celebrity stylist Billy Yamaguchi, creator of Feng Shui Beauty concept, April 9-14. This special series will include hair, skin and healthy beauty offerings culminating in a first-ever fund raiser for cancer patients – Billy’s “Feng Shui Color Party.” A portion of the proceeds from the party will go to The Pacific Cancer Foundation to help cancer patients look good and feel good.

In addition to the “Feng Shui Color Party,” Billy will be available for personalized makeover and haircut bookings April 9 – 13 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in the spa’s Beauty Salon, overlooking pristine Kapalua Bay. Space is limited and reservations are required.  Makeovers are $460 per person, ladies haircut/blow dry are $360 per person and men’s haircuts/blow dry are $125 per person. Tax and gratuity will be added to final bill.

The week’s glamorous activities are highlighted by the event on Saturday, April 14 from 9:00am to 2:00pm with the first ever event on Maui – Billy’s “Feng Shui Color Party” where eight lucky ladies will indulge in an exclusive makeover, focusing on the both inner and outer beauty and balanced beauty of individualizing color.

“Feng Shui Color Party” guests will receive a one-on-one beauty consultation with Billy, followed by hair coloring and cut, and a makeup makeover. After the morning of beauty, the ladies will join Billy for an intimate lunch at Kapalua’s Pineapple Grill, featuring sumptuous Maui-style Pacific island cuisine. A take home party gift of beauty goodies, beauty book and Billy Yamaguchi hair products is also included as part of the exclusive experience (a $200 value). The cost for the “Feng Shui Color Party” is $600 per person, including tax and gratuities.

A portion of the proceeds for the “Feng Shui Color Party” party will go to the Pacific Cancer Foundation to help cancer patients look good and feel good. MAUI POLO CLUB ANNOUNCES NEW SPRING SCHEDULE
SUNDAYS IN UPCOUNTRY MAUI

If you have not experienced Maui Polo, this is the time of year to head upcountry for some Sunday fun! Bring the whole family, polo is a very exciting, thrilling game to play and watch, and everyone loves the horses! After each game there is a party, with food music and fun for all.

Located near King Keaulike School in Pukalani, the Maui Polo Club Arena is only a few minutes away from Makawao and Pukalani. The games start at 1pm, and the gates open at 12pm. Admission is $5 per adult at the gate, and kids under 16 are free!
