29th kapalua wine & food festival returns to maui

Hawai‘i’s longest-running wine and food event returns June 24–27, 2010, allowing island visitors and residents an up-close look at the latest trends in food, wine, and Hawaiian Cuisine all within the beautiful setting of the Kapalua Resort.

Returning host, Master Sommelier Fred Dame will bring several of the world’s most famous winemakers, master sommeliers and celebrated chefs to wine tastings, a gourmet cooking demonstration and festive gala functions held throughout the weekend at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua.

For the first time, the four-day event themed “Summer Soirée” will highlight Hawai‘i’s Regional Cuisine and embrace the “Farm to Fork” concept through an exciting new partnership with the Maui County Farm Bureau. Chef DK Kodama, owner of DK Restaurants, will be the featured Festival Chef and will delight participants during Sunday’s highly anticipated luncheon “DK’s Secrets: Sansei Style.”

“The Kapalua Wine & Food Festival has always showcased intriguing wines from around the world, but this year’s culinary spotlight will be centered on Hawai‘i’s unique cuisine. We’re very excited to have DK Kodama as our featured chef for Sunday’s culinary exhibition, an event not to be missed. With DK’s focus on local farm to table menus it also made perfect sense to collaborate with Maui County Farm Bureau and its members, including Maui Cattle Company, to highlight Grown on Maui local products and produce throughout the event,” said Nancy Cross, vice president of Events Management, Kapalua Resort.

Throughout the weekend, participants can also select from an impressive list of interactive seminars including Zins and Cheese, Heal The World with Pinot Noir, Cab Franc Retrospective and Wine Idol: The Master Challenge.

This year’s Grand Tasting, held on Friday night, June 25 will feature menu preparations by The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua’s Executive Chef John Zaner and on Sunday June 27 the ever-popular Kapalua Seafood Festival, will feature thirteen of Maui’s top chefs and restaurants competing for the “Best of the Fest” prize, sponsored by Maui No Ka Oi Magazine along with live music, entertainment and a bountiful selection of fine wines and spirits.

Accommodations packages at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua are available in two and four day options, ranging from $725-950.
